My Connection to John Alden

  • John Alden, 1599 - 1687, Born in England, crossed the Atlantic ocean on the Mayflower in 1620, married Priscilla Mullins in 1623 and lived, first in Plymouth, then in Duxbury in what was to become the Unites States of America. John and Priscilla had 10 children; Elizabeth, John, Joseph, Sarah, Jonathan, Ruth, Rebecca, Mary, Priscilla, and David.
  • David Alden, 1647 -1718. Married Mary Southworth about 1667 and had 6 children; Ruth, Elizabeth, Priscilla, Alice, Benjamin, and Samuel.
  • Samuel Alden, 1688 - 1781. Married Sarah Sprague about 1727.
  • Samuel Alden, 1730 ?. Became a sea captain and settled in England

  • Thomas Alden, 1745 - 1830
  • Isaac Alden, 1770 - 1832. Settled in Oxford in 1790 and acquired Eastwyke Farm, married Martha Curtis in 1794. They had 10 children; John, Ann, Rebecca, Thomas, Henry, Sarah, (and Isac I, James, Isac II, Martha who died in infancy)
    • Henry Alden founded a printing company in Oxford in 1830 which has grown into a family of companies - the Alden Group.

  • Thomas Alden, 1807 - 1874. A butcher (the first Alden butcher?). Married ------, they had 6 children; Robert Rhodes, William, John, Josiah, Mary, and Alice.
  • Robert Rhodes Alden, 1840 - 1927. Founded R. R. Alden Butcher's Shop in the Central Market in Oxford, Married ------, they had 11 children; Grace, Arthur, Leonard, Stanley, Reginald, Harold, Edward, William, Frederick, Eveline, and Winifred.

    • Leonard married ------, they had 7 children; Arthur, Nellie, Grace, Leonard, Robert, Katherine and Priscilla.

      • Len married Doreen, no children, Len spent many years researching the Alden geniology.
      • Bob married Dorothy, they had 3 children; Richard, Rodney and David. Bob took over the main Alden butcher shop in the Oxford market, Richard and Rodney work in the shop.

  • Harold Alden, 1879 ? - 1953 ? Married Edith ------, they had 5 children; Gwen, Thomas, Molly, John, Beryl.
  • Thomas Alden, 1906 - 1976. Married Dorothy Agnes Ingram in 1935, They had two children, Robert and Margaret. Tom had a poultry and game shop on the Oxford central market before World War II.
